Obituary

Our beloved father and grandfather, Dr. William Abraham Valiente, aka "Bill" passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the age of 79 in San Francisco.

He was born on February 10, 1938 in Santa Ana, El Salvador, to the late Flavio Valiente and Amanda Ramirez. He had two siblings, his identical twin, the late Flavio Valiente and his sister, Gladys Maria ValienteBalladares.

He met his first wife, the late Helen Cresci, at a young age and soon after they had a son, Ernesto Valiente. Bill married his second wife Katya Jaen and they had two children, Herving and Soraya. He was married a third time to Marta Flores. He was loved by many. Bill is a proud grandfather of nine and great grandfather of two. After retiring, he devoted much of himself in caring and raising his grandson Gilberto Valenzuela.

Bill graduated from Mission High School in 1957, attended City College of San Francisco graduating with his associate's degree in 1961 and then attended San Francisco State University. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1971 before moving on to achieve his Masters in 1973. After graduating he proceeded to open his own dental laboratory and worked with several dentists in the Bay Area and soon afterwards was hired at City College of San Francisco to teach Dental Technology. His readiness and desire to help students and colleagues extended to all who knew him. A great example in the Latino community, Bill was an immigrant who achieved the highest degree in Education, a PhD in Science Education. He later was promoted to the Administration Department and went on to become a Dean of Instruction at City College of San Francisco.

His passion to help his community continued on for many years and incorporated one of his other passions, soccer. As a devoted soccer enthusiast, he was a pioneer in establishing the San Francisco Soccer Association, where he volunteered as treasurer. Throughout his life he impacted many with his kindness and generosity.

He leaves behind his family, two sons; Ernesto &Herving, daughter; Soraya, grandchildren; Gilberto, Ernesto, Sophia, Dominic, and Zoraya, Amea, Ayden, Cianna and Joshua; two great grandchildren and many other close family members and friends. He will be greatly missed.
